Blechnum apendiculatum

Whorled Hard Fern

Description

This fern has upright and rather stiff whorled fronds to 45cm; these have a matt texture and are green, though when young they are a delicate shade of pink. Although each plant grows as a tight shuttlecock offset clumps regularly appear around the mother plant, so that a groundcover colony soon arises. It is an American species and may prove hardy in warmer UK gardens.
